Day 1 of chemo... wham!

Wow, didn't know a drug could work so fast. I took my first dose of Temodar last night before bed at 10:30 and by 2:00 was up sick. Now I know, so tonight I'll take the anti nausea med first and hopefully fight off the nausea and sickness. It's making for a rather yucky morning. I think I'll be off coffee until this drug is all done with. One of my indulgences I'll have to do without. Oh, and no wine either. Besides not needing or wanting the acid taste, you're supposed to stay away from alcohol. It will be easy. Somehow you lose your appetite and taste for the things that are bad for you. So I had a bottle of "Ensure Immune Health" instead this morning, creamy milk chocolate shake, yum!
Today will be day 3 of radiation to the chest. There's an X on my chest, right above my cleavage (or lack there of) and slightly to the right side where they are targeting. So far so good. Everyday at 10:30am I'll be there.
I'm hoping to run one last bit of Christmas errands today afterward. I think this may turn out to be a long week with the start of chemo... so I better get it done!

  2. Just so I can keep track: day 2 was much better. I took Ativan before the Temodar and slept well and w/o any nausea. I even felt pretty good all day, just a bit tired this evening.

  3. Ativan is your best friend! That's all I needed through my chemo. It will be yucky, but I'm hoping you get the right combo of meds figured out to get through this as best you can. Thinking of you!

  4. SJN: Good luck with this next challenge, sounds like you found the Ativan just in time. A little wonder drug, that one! ;-) Rest up, be well, stay warm!

  5. You are so amazing! I hope this round kicks the proverbial butt of your cancer.

Thanks for your kind words about my decorating attempts & Christmas bling. Actually, you have been my inspiration since the first time I came to your blog. I had never seen any of the decorating blogs before, which I found through you. It's changed my life, really.

I had the colonoscopy today & only one pollyp they sent for biopsy. As horrid as the prep was, I felt like a new woman afterward. Honestly, it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd anticipated.

Still praying for you & sending positive vibes your way....

  6. The Ativan is doing the trick... I've gone since Tuesday feeling rather okay. Getting all the Christmas shopping done and starting to wrap. Today I went for a check-up and my WBC's were low, lower than the low range, so I hope I can stay away from sickness and germs. I just started feeling well since the Thanksgiving cold and sinus infection, thanks to a Z-pack.
Cheers to staying healthy and side effect free!

  8. update on the radiation side effects: I started with a burn rash first on my back and then on my chest ~day 9. Raw bumps/spots that are incredibly itchy. I started with the "lump" in my throat feeling ~ day 12. Makes it hard to swallow, so I'm staring a more liquid diet.

  9. today was actually my last day for the direct 3 beams. The side effects are worsening so the Radiologist said to forgo the last regular round and just start the boost next week. This will give my burn and my lump time to heal. I have a patch on my chest today, like burn victims use. It's still itchy underneath it but I'll leave it on overnight as directed.
Swallowing is tough and I'm hungry! Going to use some "magic mouthwash" and go eat something...

  10. You are, as always, in my heart. I know it's not an easy road and frustrating when the "get better" stuff makes you feel so much worse. Hugs (gentle ones) to you.
