Gettin' out in the fresh air

Today was beautiful, warm and sunny! A great day for a walk on the nature trail that runs behind my daughter's neighborhood. So we put on our sneakers, got the strollers out and took off for a mile+ trek. There were so many people out there enjoying our first real warm spring weather.
Baby C started off awake, but then the motion of the stroller ride...
...which he really enjoyed, note the smile ;-)
quickly put him to sleep.
Nap time for both babies!
Some of the sights along the way...
Back at the house, the babies were all rested and happy...
...and wondering when we can do it again!

I did it, I made the decoupaged Easter eggs!

Remember the post I did on the Paper Napkin Decoupage Eggs? Well, I told you I'd re-post after I tried it so here it is! They came out great and were so easy, you have to try it too!

I decided to use Paper Mache Eggs that I purchased at Michael's rather than real blown out eggs. So I started by painting the brown paper eggs white with some sample paint I had left over. I did 2 coats.
The directions call for you to cut up pretty napkins and I think Caspari has the prettiest so I bought a couple Easter themed packs at Whole Foods. They're so bright and colorful.
You cut out your designs and peel away the outer printed part from the napkin liner.
Then you paint your egg with a bit of decoupage, apply the napkin design cut-out and paint over top of it. Be careful not to overwork it or the paper napkin will start to dissolve. I let it dry and then reapplied a second coat of decoupage.
Here's the finished result:
I made a dozen using all different cut out designs from the napkins.
They look like real eggs here don't they?
I just love their vintage look!

to all my Peeps... marshmallow that is!

Did you love Peeps as a kid?
When I was young, we had yellow chick Peeps, only chicks,
only yellow.

Now... you can get them in so many different colors and animal shapes for every holiday.
I like the pink bunnies for decorating cupcakes...

isn't this a cute idea for your Easter baking?!

Or how about these bunny cupcakes using regular marshmallows
cut and shaped like bunny ears!
The pink dyed sugar sticks to the gooey marshmallow center.

Carrots are a bit more of a "mature" theme to decorate your cupcakes, don't you think?

I'm lovin' these birds nests with candy eggs... I do love coconut!

And... a bit more complicated to decorate, but oh so adorable... pots of colorful flowers.

Perfect for your spring time celebrations! What are you baking for Easter this year?

linky love at NFF, join the fun!

Introducing my new Canon camera

I wasn't completely happy with my little Sony CyberShot anymore or my Canon Digital Rebel for that matter, and wanted a new reliable camera for when the baby came.
One of the blogs I follow is Back Porch Musings by Pat from Missouri. She's quite the photographer! The cameras she uses are the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTI and the Canon G11. I have a predecessor to the Digital Rebel XTI, the trouble is my lenses are all for the 35mm Rebel and I realized I'm not getting the quality of a digital lens with my combination of camera and lenses. I wasn't sure I wanted to lug around a larger camera anyway, so instead of investing ~$900 on a new XTI, I opted for the Canon G11. It has both auto and manual settings, so I can use the auto for spur of the moment shots and fuss with the manual settings when I have the inclination and the time.
I was very pleased, and so was the MOB, with the photos I took at the wedding we attended last weekend with my new G11.
Here are a few shots I just took outside on the auto setting...

I think I made the right decision for my needs and my pocketbook.
