fun project for a rainy/snowy weekend

I just found this traipsing around the blog rolls and wanted to share it with you. It's the cutest idea!
Pretty Little Project
"Scrappy Ribbon Garland"

Looks like you take a strand of little Christmas lights and tie ribbon pieces around the wire, ingenious! Get to Hobby Lobby when ribbon rolls are half price and give it a go! I would get some "fray check" too, and put it on the ribbon edges so they don't, you know, fray.
Thanks to Whitney Caroline Designs for the fun project idea!

Fabulous at Fifty

My daughter Kelly gave me this wonderful award. She introduced me to the blogging world in January, and wanted me to know how proud she is of my leap into cyberspace.
She's part of a "twenty-something" blogger group and I was asking if there was a group for "fifty-somethings". I have found a few of us out there, and wanted to pass this award on to:
Snooty Primadona!
I love her and her blog because:
1. She golfs!
(me too)
2. She's been married 31 years (me too)
3. She's worked for the American Cancer Society
(I've had the rotten disease)
4. She posts the funniest stories! (I could only hope to be so witty)
5. She posts "today's reason to drink" on her site daily (I do like my wine)
So.... Snooty, I hope you will accept this award and pass it on to whom you deem fit!
Congratulations, have a drink on me! -Golf Gal

nautical by nature

I've been following a cute site "nautical by nature" and have a nautical find of my own to post...

It's a Mary Francis original and perfect for a spring or summer jaunt to the Yacht Club or beach vacation.

Thanks for the inspiration N by N!

comfy and casual

I was at Target the other day, shopping for golf balls, and came across a too cute pair of "topsider" style shoes. I love the color combo! They also come in tan (boring, but practical).
$24.99 and so comfortable...
I wear 6.5 or 7, and I bought the size 7.

These sunny southern days have me looking forward to "springing ahead"

think they'll go with my new golf outfit?

spring ahead

What do you think of this for a spring golf outfit?

It's on sale in my size at
www.golfsophisticate.com and only $5.95 shipping, what a steal!
I think I'm gonna go for it.

critters of the night

"Okay pups time for bed, want to go out?" I open the door, look down and this is what I see...

"No you can't come in, go back to your own house!" Good night!

so many dots...

Today is golf day, but a no-go with it raining buckets (great for my new shrubs though, 4 posts ago).
Don't worry, the Golf Gals will still have to meet, for lunch of course! Today is a special lunch as we celebrate a birthday for our beloved Dotti! What a great name and theme for a party! All the gals are bringing something "dot", easily found at any shop or store.
I went to my fave store, Hobby Lobby, and put together a b'day visor (not really needed in the rain today, but fun just the same), and colored some signature golf balls for her then put them in a polka dotted pail!
We'll decorate with... dots of course!

dot napkins and spreaders, koozies, wine glasses and bottles, note papers, golf socks, key fobs, candy and pillows, it's a world full of dots for our gal pal Dotti!

word of the day

A daily hobby habit at our house is the board game SCRABBLE. We think , just maybe, it uses our brains and will help ward off "old person's disease , crs".
here's the word of the day:

piggies at the trough

For some reason, my pups like to eat cabbage. Personally, I think that's a bit strange for a dog. The other day I found Bailey all the way up in the planter, all fours, munching away at the half dead leaves.

(when I grabbed the camera, she jumped down, too bad, it was a funny sight).

Since then, I have pulled away
all the dead leaves, leaving a stub that is trying to grow.

Alas, I've finally grown a garden worth eating!

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope you enjoy today!

Wear pink or red,
adorn in your heart jewelry,

Facelift...before and after

Our house was built in 1990. We just got a new roof with our Insurance, thanks to the hail storm in March last year. We had a dumpster in our driveway for ~a week to accommodate the old roof shingles and whatever else had to come off and be replaced. With our house being almost 20 years old, so were the overgrown shrubs in the front. The dumpster was ready and waiting, and we couldn't help ourselves! We cut down the 3 beyond large evergreens, and threw them in.
So... here's the before
with the shrubs ripped out,
and then the after...

with new spruces, ilex, violas, ivy and mini wood chips for our new front face lift.
Like it?

they're here!

My new business cards for my Wedding and Event Design venture came today in the mail. I was very pleased with the way my logo (created by Kelly Hamilton) reproduced on the white linen card stock. I ordered them from an online company www.zazzle.com. I would recommend them to anyone! Their site is very user friendly. You get to use their art or download your own, move all the type around, change the font, size, color and layout, make it exactly how you want it. Give them a try! My scanning doesn't do the cards justice though, they look much better in person, here you can't really see the damask background behind WED. The top one is a "chubby" card, the bottom one the standard size biz card.
Thanks again for the logo Kelly, I love it!

Alex's 22nd B'day at the Lake

Last weekend was unseasonably warm for us in Atlanta, highs near 70 degrees, wow! We seized the opportunity to celebrate Alex's birthday out at the lake. (at the same time back in the big city our house was being re-roofed, so the lake was a much quieter location for us and the pups who like to bark at the worker-bees).
Kelly and Linc and the gran-pups joined us on Saturday. That evening, we took the pontoon boat over to the Ritz for dinner at Gaby's. We dined outside in front of a roaring fire. The temps were so pleasant and such a nice treat for Febuugly. We love the pontoon boat, especially b/c it's in the water all year round and enables us to do these spur of the moment jaunts. We boated back home for yummy cake imported from Whole Foods, a chocolate raspberry delight. Sunday, we all ventured out to the new movie theater, so the girls could see "He's just not that into you". Sooo cute, we all totally enjoyed it. A good smirking movie, with a little bit of drama at times. The guys saw a bang bang shoot um up movie geared more toward their liking. Alex had to head back to school after that. Hope you enjoyed your b'day weekend Alex! We love you!

Soon, we'll be out numbered

It seems to be a Nathan family trait to have a soft spot for dogs!
Even or especially among the Massachusetts Nathans, who currently have 2 pups. Ollie and Erica. We, here in Atlanta, currently have 3 pups, a Maltese named Maddy and 2 Chihuahuas named Sharkey and Bailey. Kelly and Linc (Nathan now Hamilton) have 2 Jack Russells, Westin and Tessa. And now... there has been another addition to our doggie family! Kristin and Ryan (Nathan now Morgan) have adopted a "they think shepherd-husky mix" pup named Jax.
Best wishes to the newly parents!

Happy B'day Alex!

We're out at the lake celebrating Alex's birthday, which is tomorrow.
My baby is turning 22, wow! The weather has changed for the better and it's dry and will be ~ 60 degrees today, a nice day/weekend to celebrate!
Here's the b'day girl with her gift of 12 years ago... Maddy was adopted when Alex turned 10. She is still young and puppyish at heart for being 84 years old in dog years.
Happy 22nd Birthday Alexandra-Janie-boops!
I wish you a wonderful and exciting year ahead. May all your dreams come true! xoxox Mom
