when you choose the wrong paint color...
STOP! and go get it remixed or start over with a new color. It doesn't happen to me often, since I buy the samples and try several colors, but when I arrived back at the Lake house this weekend the "Dried palm" had dried sooo bright that I just did.not.like.it. It had too much yellow making it almost "neon". I didn't see this on the sample, maybe because it was on top of yellow? Anyway... back to Home Depot with the 2nd gallon. They couldn't add any other tints to change the yellow factor, since it was so high. So they actually took the gallon back and let me choose another color. Thanks HD for great customer service! I chose Martha Stewart's "Calabash" since I had the swatch at home and thought it would be the green I desired.
Here's the Calabash trimmed out on top of the Dried palm:
We painted the 2nd coat yesterday and it turned out a nice spring green... crisp like a granny smith apple. It looks good with the white beaded board. I like it, I don't love it. But I think once I tie in more fabrics with the same green I could love it.After we finished painting I cleaned from top to bottom... dusted, vacuumed, mopped the floors. The new green paint makes it feel crisp and knowing it's clean makes it feel good!

fall is my favorite time of year
The gorgeous weather this past weekend gave us a taste of what's soon to come... cooler temperatures, dryer air and the beauty of the landscape as it changes to fall.
Since it's still getting up into the 90's around here... I can't really decorate for fall yet. So I've done just a slight transition...
Until later in the season when I'll put out all the fall foliage...
My new candle holder replaced the vine basket. It will give me the soft warm glow of a fire when the weather turns colder. And the best part, without turning on the gas logs and burning all those therms!

sublte changes with paint
After 10 years of a warm yellow, a Duron shade I've forgotten the name of, we decided to paint the great room at the Lakehouse. I thought about a dark blue, to accent the white beaded board below, but that was nixed because it would make the room too dark. So I kept looking... I narrowed it down to 2 colors... "Banana cream" a pale creamier yellow than the current color, and "Dried palm" a yellowish green, both by Behr.
And the winner:
It's a subtle change but will freshen up the room and look crisp against the white beaded board. I'll also change out that green lampshade, and recover the yellow pillows on our denim sofa to a new fabric...
We finished the first coat in the entire room today. Left the room a mess for next weekend, when we'll be back to finish painting the second coat, clean up and then... enjoy our new room!
funny... I've been singing "put the lime in the coconut..." all day

worth the wait
It's been a loooong hot summer here in the south. So to have the weather be this gorgeous for Labor Day weekend was truly a gift. The temps and humidity were low enough to turn the AC off at the Lake, open all the doors and windows up to the cool air, and enjoy! And we did! oh, and the pups did too.
